As well as the regular maintenance our gardeners
carry out (ie, weeding, mowing, pruning), these Case Studies are the
results of additional projects completed
This client had always dreamed of having a vegetable
garden, but had never got round to it. In the meantime the area set
aside for this became more and more overgrown. Garden Wonders’ Gardener
Mick transformed this derelict area of the garden into a workable
Vegetable Garden.

Before
Firstly, Mick cleared all the existing plants and
weeds, being careful to remove as many of the roots as possible
to prevent them from growing back. He also advised on those plants
which could be saved and moved to other parts of the garden. Mick
heavily pruned the large, unruly Bay tree to allow more light into
the area which is necessary for growing vegetables. Reducing the
size of the Bay tree also helped prevent an imbalance in this area.
Mick placed edging boards around the area and built a sandstone
path through the middle of the Vegetable Garden, to allow for ease
of maintenance. The path also made a feature of the garden building
beyond, by drawing the eye to it. The soil was completely dug over
to aerate it and it was enriched with compost to provide well-needed
nutrients. Hopefully this will produce bumper crops for this year!

Garden Wonders provides Monthly Task Sheets which
includes a section of Vegetable Gardening, suggesting tasks necessary
in the Vegetable Garden at certain times of the year and also giving
tips on which seeds to sow and when.
